NSF is funding our four-year biodiversity survey of Vanuatu!

Nov 18, 2015

We are thrilled to collaborate with biologists and linguists from UH, CSUEB, Swarthmore, NYBG and the Vanuatu National Herbarium to document the cultural and biotic diversity of Vanuatu. This will mean some incredible field work and an opportunity to fill in some blank spots on our map of endophyte and macrofungal diversity.

Researcher Andrea Jani and Undergad Katie Lund join the lab.

Oct 1, 2015

Andrea is working on a large collaborative project examining fungal community response to nutrient pulses in corals, and Katie is helping out with our endophyte project. Welcome!

Postdoc Geoffrey Zahn joins the lab

Aug 12, 2015

Dr. Geoff has come to help with our study of snail microbial transplants.

Aloha oe to Richard who has taken a position at Griffith University.  He will be missed!

Bioblitz at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!

May 20, 2015

We had a blast at volcanoes, watching the lava flow and TRIPLING the number of fungal records for the park.

We're looking for a postdoc

The Amend lab is hiring a postdoc to study phyllosphere fungal ecology for our Achatinella project.  Please see the job ad in the "Join" link.  Thanks!

Phylogenetic diversity/ecosystem function paper is published.

Feb 19, 2015

Anthony's latest paper looks at how manipulated phylogenetic diversity of fungi affects leaf litter decomposition rates. Amend, A. S., Matulich, K. L., & Martiny, J. B. (2015). Nitrogen addition, not initial phylogenetic diversity, increases litter decomposition by fungal communities. Frontiers in Microbiology, 6, 109.
